At Trafalgar Events, we believe that exceptional events should never come at the expense of the planet. That’s why we are dedicated to minimising our environmental impact by integrating sustainable practices into every facet of our operations, across all our venues. Our pioneering environmental strategy is informed by industry best practices, as developed by the UK Hospitality Sustainability Forum.

Tailored Sustainability Actions

Recognising that each venue has its unique challenges and opportunities, we invest time and resources to develop tailored sustainability actions that contribute to our overarching goals. Every location features its own ‘Green Group,’ a dedicated team that crafts and implements a bespoke sustainability action plan, and monitors key environmental performance indicators to ensure continuous improvement.

Energy Efficiency, Water Conservation and Waste Management

We’re constantly exploring innovative methods to conserve energy and water while minimising waste. By replacing traditional lighting with energy-efficient LED bulbs, we’ve significantly reduced energy consumption. Additionally, our implementation of smart dispense systems in all our bars has drastically cut water usage and minimised product loss.

Our commitment to reducing waste extends beyond energy and water. We rigorously enforce the ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ ethos across all venues. For instance, we’ve eliminated excess packaging by using reusable crates for fruit and vegetable deliveries and have adopted coreless kitchen rolls, which significantly reduce packaging waste.

Menu Design

Did you know that the UK wastes approximately 9.5 million tonnes of food every year? At Trafalgar Events, our menus are designed to minimise food waste through rigorous analysis of plate waste and portion sizes. Any generated plate and prep waste is recycled; collected food waste is transformed into biofuels, gas, and fertilisers, achieving zero food waste.

In addition to these efforts, we are passionate about promoting healthier and more sustainable lifestyles. One way we do this is by offering exclusively meat-free starters and appetisers on our menus, encouraging our guests to make more sustainable dining choices.

Reducing Plastic

We took proactive steps in 2016 to remove plastic straws from our venues. In 2022, we furthered our commitment by investing over £50,000 to eliminate single-use plastic cups, replacing them with durable, reusable polycarbonate glassware. We also use disposable cups that are 100% recyclable and participate in the Born in the UK closed-loop recycling scheme, diverting over one million cups from landfill annually.

Sustainable Partnerships and Suppliers

Our dedication to sustainability extends beyond our venues. We carefully select partners and suppliers who share our commitment to eco-friendly practices:

  • Red Tractor Accreditation: We exclusively use Red Tractor-accredited meat products, ensuring higher welfare standards and supporting sustainable farming practices across the UK.
  • Carlsberg: By installing ‘Smart Dispense’ systems in our bars, we’ve reduced water and energy usage and eliminated product loss from line cleans.
  • Marshfield Farm: Our ice cream partner, Marshfield Farm, operates a closed-loop production system, resulting in a significantly lower carbon footprint.
  • Marine Stewardship Council (MSC): We only purchase sustainably caught fish certified by the MSC, ensuring our seafood choices support healthy oceans.
